The fact that the language of wider communication is a privileged dialect is
not a minor point. I know that because it is not my native dialect. I
learned it in school; and, after the greater part of a century, I still find
it heavy in my mouth. However, a language of wider communication is a
sociological necessity for the purpose of thorough and precise communication
across geographical, cultural, and ethnic boundaries. Where shall we search
for a suitable alternative? Beat not the horse for being a horse.
