It is perhaps of some interest to this List that we recently engaged in a
civilised debate on the Bell Curve conclusions on differential ethnic
intelligence levels without condemning any of us to the gallows, so to
speak; yet, Dr. James Watson, after being vilified in the world press for
stating one of the conclusions akin to those of The Bell Curve drawn from
his research, has now been suspended from his research position..

Similarly, Lawrence Summers of Harvard recently lost his job for stating
that women compared to men were ill-suited to the hard sciences - a
conclusion supported by some research findings.

The lesson I suppose might be that no matter how well scientifically-founded
a conclusion might be, it is unacceptable if it is not politically correct.

So much for free speech.
