The ATEG website now includes an interactive K-12 Grammar Teaching
Message Board intended for teachers seeking a space for focused discussion
of classroom methods and materials. The message board requires a user id
and a password, which can be obtained from Judy Diamondstone, Rutger
University, at [log in to unmask] If you are a teacher interested in
using this new space, tell Prof. Diamondstone who you are, where and what
you teach, and why you would like to participate.
Teachers are invited to post to the K-12 Grammar Teaching Message
Board if they are interested in describing a particular method or piece of
material for teaching grammar, in discussing the results, and in asking for
and offering advice. If topics arise that might be of interest to the wider
audience of the ATEG listserv, hopefully they will be carried over to it.
Members of the listserv have expressed concern that the listserv discussion
should not be "split." Nonetheless, some teachers may be interested in a
means for discussing classroom concerns along different lines than those
that characterize the listserv. Each of ATEG's vehicles for discussion--its
journal, Syntax in the Schools; its July conference; its listserv--appeals
to different people and suits different types of presentations. We can
explore whether the K-12 Grammar Teaching Message Board proves to be a
worthwhile addition.
Thanks to Judy Diamondstone for urging the creation of the message
board and to Michael Southwell, ATEG webmaster, for the technical support.
