The NCTE annual convention is coming soon and I thought ATEG members
might be interested in who from ATEG will be presenting there. Let me
begin by mentioning that Craig Hancock will be presenting for the North
American Systemic Functional Linguistics Association. Details of his
presentation are below. I would be interested in hearing of other
presentations by ATEG members who will be there.
Peter

Session: J.03 - 2:45 pm to 4:00 pm 11/21/2009 Format: Panel
Room: Marriott/Franklin 5, 4th Floor Topic:
Reading
Level(s): General (proposals of interest at all instructional levels)
Title: Grammar and Reading: A Whole Text View of the Sentence
(Sponsoring Group: North American Systemic Functional Linguistics
Association)
Drawing on approaches to language that recognize an intimate connection
between form and meaning, the panel will look at ways in which
sentences contribute to unfolding discourse. Participants will explore
how the structures of component sentences contribute to the over-all
effect of a sample text. Classroom implications will be discussed.

Chair: Peter H. Fries, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant
