Ed was right I was talking about the minimalist framework in theoretical syntax. And By the way the Radford book just arrived yesterday. I also got _Understanding Minimalism_ by Hornstein, Nunes, and Groham (2005). It'll take me a bit to get through them, but I have to review a book on minimalism for a syntax group and want to be sure I am up to speed. I have used Radford's books on syntax since I first saw it in my first theoretical syntax class. He's got a very clear style and he presents a very thorough and organized view of the subject.
