Sorry, I haven't been following this thread and I may be
repeating something someone else said. I advise my students
to substitute a subject-form or object-form pronoun for a
reflexive. If the substitution sounds OK, then don't use
the reflexive. That process seems to work, though I
haven't gone searching for counter examples.
