Folks, send your work on grammar for consideration in Syntax in the
Schools.
Here is our current editorial policy: The policy currently suggests a
2,500 word limit to articles, but we're shifting on that, seeking to
expand our work, so there is wiggle room here. As I've mentioned to one
potential contributor, 7,000 words is surely too long, but 4,000 may not
be.
SIS goes out quarterly: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.
We're considering articles for the current Fall volume now.
Do send me your work! Here're the editorial guidelines:
Syntax in the Schools is the quarterly
journal of the Assembly for
the Teaching of English Grammar (ATEG).
Seeking to foster discussion
and analysis of the teaching of English
grammar at all grade levels — K
- 16, we solicit articles which describe,
analyze and/or critique any
and all aspects of the teaching of grammar
in our schools. For example,
we encourage treatments of
• classroom practices in the
teaching of grammar
• traditional vs. linguistic
approaches to grammar
• why & how grammar should or should
not be taught
• how we handle language varieties
in the classroom
• teacher education and the teaching
of grammar
• the integration of grammar &
writing, literature, etc.
On these matters, we welcome articles,
reports from the schools and from
teacher education programs, as well as book
reviews, textbook
evaluations, etc. Submissions should
conform to MLA style and should
not exceed 2,500 - 4,000 words. Graphics
(including charts, tables, figures,
etc.) should be submitted as separate TIFF
files.
