Ed, I'd be glad to give you permission to include the language section of
the Guidelines in Syntax, but I can't do that unilaterally. I have to ask
my two colleagues who are leaders here: the liaison from NCTE and the
Folio Review Chair. I expect it will be OK but will let you know soon.
These guidelines have been reviewed, modified and finally approved by
hundreds of individuals over a year and a half: members of NCTE and other
groups. While one might disagree with parts or much of them, they do represent t
he
profession's overall view. The marriage of minds is composed of teacher
educators, English persons, linguists, etc. The amount of detail expected
of a given group of preservice teachers is probably best left to
individual institutions or states, rather than a prescriptive list that
might be far too long to be useful.
