On using computers to help w/ grammar, I tried. I and others
looked at about 10 programs and found them of little help. A grad
student looked at one of the better ones (so we thought)--Perfect
Copy--and did a thesis investigating how it was used. We found
that the silly thing was often downright incorrect in
detecting errors and telling students how to use punctuation. When
we called the company and quoted several handbooks, they simply
said that nobody else has complained.
