Hey Kelly, I'm like you!  (my first exposure was '74-'75)  Your BYU
explanation was a good one, but I don't know if I buy into it. (the U draws
from all over too.)  I think we're just lucky to have some great alternative
radio stations in the state.  X-96 is great, (so was KJQ, if you were here
then)  and I work for 107.5 the end, so *of course* they're awesome ;).
 After I bought some albums, I noticed that I recognized several songs (stone
cold yesterday, get a gun, slackjawed, etc.) So I think radio has a lot to do
with their success along the wasatch front.
