1) Graduate Student Support Group
This is a graduate student group where you can meet and discuss anything
from relationships, academics or other things causing stress or anxiety.
Consider coming together with your peers. Flyer is attached.

2) Graduate School & GSA Travel Fund Deadline
If you presented at a conference or recently accepted to present, the next
deadline for travel funds through the Graduate School and GSA is quickly

3) 24th Annual African American Read-In
In celebration of Black History Month, the MU Libraries and Howe Center
for Writing Excellence presents the African American Read-In. Come share
some of your own work or anything that recognizes the talents,
contribution or experience of African Americans.  To register:

4) Book Signing –Jacqueline Johnson, MU
The book, “Finding Freedom: Memoralizing the Voices of Freedom Summer.”
Johnson will be signing her book during a reception.  More information
attached.

5) Lecture by Dr. Ramón Gutiérrez
Dr Gutierrez, a historian from the University of Chicago, will present a
lecture about the religious origins of the Mexican American Civil Rights
movement.  More information is attached.

6) Dr M. Joycelyn Elders, 15th US Surgeon General of the United States
Elders’ was appointed the 15th US Surgeon General by President Clinton in
July of 1993 and was the first African American woman to hold that post.
She is now a Distinguished Professor of Public Health at the University of
Arkansas School of Public Health and a Distinguished Professor at the
Clinton School of Public Policy. Flyer attached.

Former US Surgeon General Dr. M. Joycelyn Elders will discuss Healthcare
Reform for the annual Casper Memorial Lecture.  The lecture is free and
open to the public. RSVP: (513) 727-3471.  Limit two tickets per person.
