2004 Editorial Internship For Modern Machine Shop Magazine
Description:
A intern is needed to work in Modern Machine Shop magazine for approximately
12 weeks in summer 2004 (ideally beginning May 24; no later than June 14).
This position requires an organized individual to copyedit submitted news
releases, enter them into a database and proofread the copy.
Main work will include entering news releases into a database for the August
issue and the IMTSNet Web site, which cover the industry's 2004 machine tool
convention held in September. Approximately 800 product releases about items
on display appear in this issue/Web site. This job would entail getting
these releases from their submitted form through several preliminary
editorial steps. Work may include copyediting, keyboarding/scanning,
proofreading, sizing photos and more, while working closely with assistant
editors and other editors who will edit for content, assist with style
editing and coding and perform the layout functions.
Skills required include good proofreading and grammar skills, ability to
follow given style, organizational skills and ability to work with many
people and grasp information quickly.
As MMS editors take vacations during this period, you might be called on to
perform other duties such as proofreading other editorial items, checking
proof copies of the magazine sections and so on. This is a very fast paced
environment in which an intern can learn a lot about trade magazines.
Modern Machine Shop is published by Gardner Publications-metalworking's
premier publisher-in Cincinnati, Ohio. Work is 7.5 hours a day, 5 days per
week. Salary is $8 per hour.
