modems are a little more advanced than that.  They are installed in banks of 16
and they must be able to receive a call and negotiate with all of the known
modems out there.  They must be able to recognize that the modem before itself
is being used and it needs to realize that it is his turn to answer (lookup
'rigndown' if you have any questions).  Yep..they sure are nice modems!  Also,
that fifteen dollar fee goes towards maintaing those modems and all of the
network here, not just purchansing the modems.  You spend $30 a semester for
the metro, but it only costs you $15 a semester for internet access.  Which is
more advances, a bus, or a computer network.  I would say the computer network
and at $15 a semester that fee is very cheap!  As it was pointed out earlier,
you could go spend $20 a month for internet access, or you could wait until all
the problems have been worked out with Cisco (software vendor).

    I believe that you started the rant by criticizing everything that the
people in MCIS do to provide you with your precious internet access.  Paul
Gentle only replied to your diatribe.
