HI! This is an exciting time for several of you as you are searching for
your first job out of school. A lot of people are asking me about CFY
salaries.
ASHA publishes salary data every other year. According to the 1997 ASHA
Obmibus study here are some facts:

1997 median salary for CFY = $29,000 for academic year contracts (e.g.,
scholl based) and $33,167 for calendar year. Salaries go up according to
years of experience.

Keep in mind that the above information is affected by region and costs of
living. In Cinci, health care settings (calendar year) would pay around
34K for a CFY. As you are negotiating salaries, you can always reference
this study if it would be to your favor.

Please keep in mind that other issues are also important in addition to the
base salary. These inlcude health insurance, disability, paid vacation
days, professional days to go to conferences for continuing education
requirements, professiional dues, liability insurance, etc. Remember Rick
DeCorsi's presentation in 626 regarding financial planning, retirement
plans, etc? Keep everything into consideration.

Also, in a CFY situtation suprvision is critical along with peer support. I
wish you all the best as you are getting ready to begin this great journey.
If you would like to obtain a complete copy of the report, please feel
free to get in touch.
