                    Candle fire damages WSU
                    fraternity
                    Related stories

Pullman _ A burning candle in a fraternity house
caused a small fire Saturday afternoon, Pullman
                    firefighters said.

At about 2 p.m., the fire alarm sounded at the Alpha
Tau Omega house, 710 NE Lindin. Firefighters found
several fraternity members in the kitchen eating and
                    ignoring the audible alarm.

The firefighters made their way upstairs through
smoke and haze and found a small table on fire in a
bedroom. A candle on the table had burned to the
bottom and ignited a fire, which was quickly
extinguished. Firefighters also found a fire door
propped open with a piece of wood, a fire code
                    violation.

In February, a candle left burning at the Sigma Nu
house at 640 NE Campus started a major fire that
caused extensive damage and left the residence
                    uninhabitable. No one was injured.
