New Federal Legislation to be Introduced

Senator Torricelli (D-NJ) will be introducing new legislation focusing on
campus fire safety "right to know."  Campus Firewatch was advised that the
legislation will be introduced on Wednesday, April 25.  A factsheet on the
legislation prepared by the Senator's staff can be seen on Campus Firewatch
at www.campus-firewatch.com.  The text of the legislation will be posted on
the Campus Firewatch website when it is available.

Press Conference on Pennsylvania House Bill 209

At a press conference held today at the state capitol, Representative
McGeehan and Representative Belfanti discussed how House Bill 209 was
amended to eliminate the mandatory requirement for sprinklers in residence
halls, along with other significant changes.  Participating in the press
conference was Gerald Naylis from New Jersey, who was instrumental in the
passage of the landmark legislation in that state, and Ed Comeau, publisher
of Campus Firewatch.  More details will be contained in the April issue of
Campus Firewatch.
