Sorry for the delay.
I have been running a few examples and this what I find, as described
in the includegraphics package.
if my figures are jpg, png, tiff, I need to include the size
width/height. (There is no intrinsic size in bitmap image files)
On the other hand if I am working with ps or eps files and even pdf's
the size does not need to be included because
it takes it from the boundingbox (Ps code). This does not apply to ps raw.
This web site talks about using graphicx for PNG files but I have not
been able to make it work.

SOLUTION:
Use \includegraphicscopyright*{myfigure.jpg}
This seems to keep the size of the figure to about 6 cm [The example
uses width=6cm]
if you have a test case I can try it out.
