Hi,
These are Matlab data files (the .mat files). He is running a series of
jobs to produce these files, but I'm not sure what he plans to do with these
once he has produced all of the files. I have talked to him a little about
these files, but I'll contact him again to see if I can get some details.
I think that all of his files are being written to /home/shuklaa/M33 -
would it help the backup if all *.mat files in that directory, or even that
whole directory could be excluded from the backup?
Dave

Subject: Backing up Matlab files
My short question is: do we need to backup matlab files? Dr.
Shukla's job (which I presume is matlab) has generated about 2
terabytes of .mat files recently. This is causing space and
performance problems on our primary backup server. If no one knows
the answer I will contact Matlab.
