Dear Rescomp,

I am hoping that you might help me with developing some new code in
the R language.

I need two functions in the R language which will generate the
Jacobian matrices of a set of ordinary differential equations. I need
(i) the Jacobian with respect to the state variables x, and the
Jacobian with respect to the parameters. I would use these functions
for two current projects for easing the optimization of a set of
ODE's and for assessing the behavior of the system. I am currently
collaborating the Steve Wright and Amit Shukla on one of these projects.

R has simple differentiation functions (see help("deriv") ) and at
least two individuals in the international R community have Jacobian-
generating functions which are embedded into larger functions. Since
R is Open Source, it should not be too hard to come up with our own,
with, of course, appropriate citation of others' work.

It may be that others on campus (Steve Wright, John Bailer) may also
find use for these functions.

Thank you for considering this, and I look forward to hearing from you.
