Eric,

My name is Greg Reese and I'm in the Research Computing Support group. I work with a lot of people in the psych department and would be happy to meet with you. Please email me some times and dates when you are available and we can sit down and figure out how we can help you.

Greg

Subject: Research Programming help

To whom it may concern,

My name is Eric Littman and I am a graduate student in the Psychology Department. I do research in the area of perception and action. I collect postural data utilize a flock of birds (Ascension Inc.) motion capturing system. In order to do this I've been "stuck" using one VE program (Vizard) that has a built-in driver to recognize the FOB. However, I'd like to switch everything over to Python script (I'm aware that Vizard is a python interpreter). The problem is that outside of Vizard, I don't have a driver for the birds. So I'm looking for a way for that to be created/written. I have researched the topic online and I have spoken with some members of the computer science department and I have confirmed my suspicion that writing a driver is far beyond my technical abilities and area of expertise. I don't know if this is something your department can potentially help with, but I'd like to find out.

Furthermore, I'm also interested in creating a script of some sort (not necessarily one) that could carry out many complex (non linear) statistical analyses as well as parsing out the raw data into readable files for analysis. Moreover, I would like this program to be able to read a "batch"-type file/folder and generate all of the desired output (i.e. instead of utilizing a program where you have to analyze one file at a time--this would allow for the analysis of a folders worth of files).

It's hard to go into all of the details necessary in this e-mail, but I would like to set up a meeting/consultation to find out more. Hopefully your department will be able to help.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Eric Littman
