In my opinion:

The Black faculty/adminstrator symposium held at Miami University yesterday afternoon was in a word: powerful.

Most important was the fact that we all, students, staff, and faculty, interacted and exchanged ideas on both the life of the mind and the day-to-day realities of being in predominately white university space.

We had a large turnout for a Friday afteroon at MU and this speaks volumes in itself. In regard to the make-up of the audience, it spoke to the heart of the event. Basically, only ourselves will be the catalyst to improve the situation.

The themes: Know they self, intellectual freedom, independent thinking, staying strong when things get tough, and much more, resonated.

I stated prior that this symposium promised to be unique for MU, and it certainly was in many positive ways.

Thanks to all who participated for your support, courage, and conviction.
