The Cincinnati Post, Tuesday, August 31
Editorial about drinking on campus and what Ohio colleges and universities
are doing to help says some schools, including Miami and UC, have taken to
offering non-alcohol events on weekend nights, to provide an alternative to
the uptown bar scene. Also says Miami is sending letters home to parents
if students are involved in a drinking-related incident on campus.

Story about the Snow/Allen trial says attorney Ken Lawson told jurors he
believes a university administrator (Sydney Carthell) may have posted the
fliers.

Journal-News, Wednesday, Sept. 1
A jury will resume deliberations this morning in the trial of two former
Miami University students accused of posting racist fliers at the CBCL.
Defense attorneys told jurors a university administrator (Sydney Carthell)
may have posted the fliers. Quotes Guy Hunter (director of affirmative
action and Carthell's boss), who "blasted the defense lawyers" outsided the
courtroom, as saying, "That was a shameful display by the attorneys. They
had no regard for this man's name whatsoever."

The Cincinnati Enquirer and Dayton Daily News, Wednesday, Sept. 1
A jury failed to reach a verdict Tuesday in the Snow/Allen trial, and
deliberation resumes this morning. Judge Lyons instructed the jurors
before they began deliberating that they could not consider the fliers'
messages in determining guilt.

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict after 5 hours of deliberations in the
trial of Nathaniel Snow and Brad Allen, two former Miami University
students accused of posting racist and homophobic fliers in the CBCL last
fall. The same students were involved in protests about those fliers.

WEBN, WLW, WMOH, WKRC, WGRR, Wednesday, Sept. 1
The jury will resume deliberation today in the trial of Nathaniel Snow and
Brad Allen.

The Cincinnati Herald, Aug. 28-Sept. 3
Story about the trial of Nathaniel Snow and Brad Allen quotes Snow's
attorney Kenneth Lawson as saying, "The main issue here is that the
university is selecting charges aimed at chilling students' freedom of
speech. If the fliers didn't have racist statements in them, there would
have been no prosecution."

The Wall Street Journal, Tuesday, August 31
This fall, as college admissions officials begin reading essays, assessing
teacher recommendations and looking at SAT scores to determine who will be
admitted, they will, for the first time, also be able to determine whether
a student qualifies as a "Striver." Strivers, an idea from the Educational
Testing Service, is designed to give colleges a tool for bringing social
equity into the admissions process.
