Editorial that reflects on a week of significant events says Miami
University-Middletown reported a 2 percent enrollment growth this fall and
an increase of 21 percent for minority enrollment.  "The Miami campus is
another of Middeltown's crown jewels for which we're thankful."

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Monday, Sept. 20
Rob Kret (director, art museum) will speak about "Making the Most of Your
Next Visit to a Museum," as part of the Fitton Center's KeyBank

Beverly Gfroerer, a teacher at Freedom Elementary in Union Township, spent
her summer participating in the Miami University's Environmental Science
for Elementary Teachers course in the Yellowstone and Grand Teton national
parks.  The class developed by Robert McWilliams (professor emeritus,
geology), Richard Lee (zoology) and Edward Soldo of Sycamore High School.

A new video-driven German course was unveiled at College of the
Atlantic.  Robert di Donato,(GREAL), "a professor with 30 years
experience teaching German, developed the course work around videos
produced in Germany.  The course is available to high schools and
community colleges and through some National Public Broadcasting
channels."

Plain Dealer, Sunday, Sept. 12
Article on college binge drinking cites the death of a 19-year-old Ohio
University student who drowned last year in the Hocking River and says rape
and death are two of the ugliest consequences of campus drinking.  Lists
efforts underway at Ohio University and other Ohio colleges and
universities.  Notes Miami's social norms campaign and its theme "you're
here because you're smart."

Athens News, Tuesday, Sept. 7
Article notes that Athens is collecting data on where alcohol-related
arrests occur to help make a case for its argument that the state has
issued too many liquor permits to a college town in which a sizable portion
of the population is underage.  The data will be shared with other college
towns such as Oxford, home of Miami University.

Article notes Ohio University President Robert Glidden's 13 percent
pay increase and says his pay of $242,300 exceeds that of the presidents of
Kent State, Akron, Bowling Green and Miami.

Local teachers attend an environmental science workshop for elementary
