"A Sense of Risk," an exhibition at the Miami University Art Museum, takes
a look at artists who have emerged in this decade.  All of the work is from
the Robert J. Shiffler Collection, whose mission is to create opportunities
for artists and art audiences to experience these works on the fringe.
Quotes Edna Southard (curator, art museum).  Includes photo of two exhibits.
And:
Story about home-schooled children quotes Diane Weber (admissions) as
saying Miami University receives fewer than five applications a year from
home-schooled students, and the applications are treated the same as an
application from a traditional student.  "We do ask students who have been
home-schooled to provide us with information about the curriculum they have
followed over their high school years," said Weber.
And:
After meeting the owner of the Trinity Christian Home-school and finding
out the school was for sale, Oxford resident Summer Cupp purchased the
school's incorporation rights, textbooks, software, copiers, games and
various other materials and started her own school.  Last year, the school
had 12 students, but this fall, with the help of her two cousins, who are
education majors at Miami University, Cupp anticipates 30 to 35 students.

Letter to the editor from Jay Clark says "As counsel for Brad Allen I feel
compelled to respond to a letter ... headlined "Racial slurs seen as double
standards."  Clark says the First Amendment guarantees a fight to preserve
the right of a racist and a letter writer to be free to express their ideas
and opinions no matter how unpopular those ideas and opinions are.

Dayton Daily News, Sunday, Sept. 6
Editorial about University of Dayton's decision to begin releasing the
names of students who commit rape, assault and other violent crimes says
it's a significant step in the right direction and also mentions that Miami
University adopted the same policy on Aug. 15.
And:
"The Week in Review" column says that two former Miami University students,
Nathaniel Snow and Brad Allen, were found not guilty Wednesday of posting
racial fliers on campus last October.

With its announcment in August that it intends to sell non-core assets to
focus on papermaking, Helsinki-based Stora Enso has opened up a range of
possibilities for the industry--which could include acquisitions in North

Randy McNutt's "Neighborhoods" column says hit songwriter Jim Lauderdale
and storyteller Kat Campbell will start Miami University-Hamilton's
1999-2000 Artists Series Sept. 25 in Parrish Auditorium.

Cook of the Week section features Robin and Nancy Piper.  Nancy works in
the art department at Miami University.

This fall, Malone College is offering an Internet class on physical

On Wednesday, Kent State University will dedicate new markers commemorating
the four students shot there by National Guardsmen during a 1970 Vietnam
War protest.

The Robert F. Wolfe and Edgar T. Wolfe Foundation has given $6.5 million to
the Ohio State University's Human Cancer Genetics Program.

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Tuesday, Sept. 7
Construction of Xavier University's new Cintas Center, the future home of
the Musketeer men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams,
should be finished by May.
And:
Ohio State University might have to reduce the number of its medical
students and forfeit millions of dollars in state subsidies if its plan to
create a branch medical school at the Cleveland Clinic falls through.

Some online textbook sellers have opened Web-based shops to give students
an alternative to campus bookstores and others are Internet offshoots of
