Hello WIMSE Folks!

Here is a quick update on yesterday's WIMSE faculty luncheon.
There was a relatively low attendence, but the ideas were flowing!! If
you had to miss the meeting, feel free to contact WIMSE via Jennifer
Profit (9-8957). She is the head resident of Wells Hall and the
organizer of many aspects of the program. We would love to get your
input for the year.

        (1) Jane Goettsch and Sally Lloyd will be attending the next
WIMSE meeting (Tues. OCt. 10 , 7-8 PM, Wells Hall) to brainstorm
ideas with students for speakers in the spring (START THINKING ABOUT
TOPICS OF INTEREST). They will also participate in our discussions on
learning in the sciences.

<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>Bring ideas for speakers to the 10/10 meeting or email
them to the wimse listserv<<<<>>>>>>

       (2) We thought about having a meeting on the topic of Graduate
Schools and what to look for when applying for the upper level students
and a meeting on careers in science -- is this what I want to be when I
grow up? ( a question I still ask myself sometimes - and I am 41 year
old!). Other ideas would be greatly appreciated. What would you like
us to do with WIMSE?

          (3) Some news: There are now 4 faculty members who are
interested in leading discussions on the Global Environment book this
spring in order to get ready for the fall seminar (this gives all
students this year a chance to look into the topic and discuss it). I
also have a lead to a 5th person who I will contact soon.

           (4) The women in science and technology course should be
approved at any minute and we will be letting you know more about it as
soon as things become more finalized there.

Look for more news and ideas as the semester progresses.

Have a good day. Hope to see you at Lunch or a meeting soon!
