Tuesday, January 26, 1999

WMUB will provide live coverage from NPR of the Senate impeachment
hearings, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. today.

Diane Rehm: violence in Kosovo; novelist Ian MacEwan
Fresh Air: Afghanistan, from the Russians to the Taliban
Public Interest: scheduled pre-emption for impeachment coverage
Talk of the Nation: scheduled pre-emption for impeachment coverage
All Things Considered: Clinton under the morality lens: ideals versus context

   The Diane
Rehm Show,
10-12 noon
(*2 FULL HOURS
on WMUB)

10-11: Kosovo: Earlier this month, international
observers in the Serbian province of Kosovo were horrified to discover the
bodies of at least 45 murdered ethnic Albanian civilians. This outbreak of
violence comes after months of tension between Serbian government forces
and the ethnic Albanians who make up a majority of the inhabitants of
Kosovo. It also is a clear violation of the terms of a peace accord agreed
upon just a few months ago. A panel talks about the renewed violence and
what international action may come next to address the ongoing conflict.

Guests: Tom Gjelten, NPR reporter; Obrad
Kesic, Balkan affairs analyst; Ilir Zherka, National Albanian American
Council; Holly Burkhalter, Physicians for Human Rights

11-12: Ian McEwan: Ian McEwan talks about his latest
novel, "Amsterdam" (Doubleday), which won the prestigious Booker Prize in
Britain last year. It's the story of the disintegration of the longtime
friendship between a composer and a journalist.

   Fresh Air
with Terry Gross,
12:06-1 p.m.

A talk with Fazal Shiehk who photographed and
documented the stories of the Afghan refugees who fought Russian rule and
then found themselves facing suppression under the Taliban government.

   Public Interest,
1-2 p.m.

Scheduled coverage of the Senate impeachment trial
will probably pre-empt this program.

IT'S A SESSION OF OPEN PHONES. YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO
CALL IN AND TALK ABOUT WHATEVER'S ON YOUR MIND. KOJO WELCOMES YOUR
REACTION TO ISSUES IN THE NEWS OR FEEDBACK ON RECENT SHOWS.

   Talk of
the Nation
2-4 p.m. (*LIVE)

Scheduled coverage of the Senate impeachment trial
will probably pre-empt this program.

HOUR ONE: SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM: President
Clinton's controversial plan to overhaul Social Security.

HOUR TWO: FAIRY TALES: some popular fairy tales and
fables and the role they play in shaping children's view of the world.

   on today's
All Things
Considered,
4-7 p.m.

There are many ways to measure the public divide
over perceptions of President Clinton and his impeachment -- many that go
beyond the words "Democrat" and "Republican." Here's one: those who see
the world in terms of abstract ideas, and those who view it only in
context. Clinton and impeachment -- through a morality lens.

    WMUB Forum,
9-10 a.m.,
repeated 7-8 p.m.

News Director Darrel Gray hosts an hour of
conversations with guests, and your e-mail comments and questions
(http://www.wmub.org/forumcomment.html)
