10-11: Origins of the Alphabet: Five years ago, a husband-and-wife team of Egyptologists found carvings that suggest
that the origins of the modern alphabet date back much further than previously believed. They join Diane to discuss this
new evidence and its significance in unraveling the history of language and communication.
Guests: John Coleman Darnell, Yale University
                Deborah Darnell, University of Chicago
                Chip Dobbs-Allsopp, Princeton Theological Seminary

11-12: Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher: Photographers Carol Beckwith and Angela Fisher teamed up for a 10-year
project to document Africa's rapidly-disappearing traditional rituals and customs. Their new two-volume work highlights
the
stunning variety of Africa's geography, people, and cultures. They talk with Diane about what they saw and experienced
during the creation of "African Ceremonies" (Abrams).
