The Diane Rehm Show, 10-12 noon (*2 full hours on WMUB)

10-11: Organic Food Standards: The Department of Agriculture plans to
announce new, tougher standards for "organic" foods. The regulations
are much closer to standards suggested by the National Organic
Standards Board several years ago. They also may let more American
farmers break into European markets, where organic standards are very
strict. But some are worried that the regulations are so limiting
that some farmers will give up altogether. A panel talks about the
new standards and the ever-growing interest in "natural" foods.
Guests: Daniel Glickman, U.S. Agriculture Secretary
                 Kathleen Merrigan, USDA
Kelly Johnston, National Food Processors Assn.

11-12: Chuck Collins and Joan Garner: Every year, Americans
contribute over one hundred billion dollars to charity. But
"charity" is a very all-encompassing category, covering verything
from museums and universities to battered women's shelters and soup
kitchens. Chuck Collins and Joan Garner, co-authors of "Robin Hood
Was Right: A Guide to Giving Your Money for Social Change" (Norton),
join Diane to talk about trends in giving, and advise how to donate
to charity in the most effective way.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross, 12:06-1 p.m.

A son's story of his father's descent into schizophrenia and
homelessness. A talk with NATHANIEL LACHENMEYER ("LACK-en-meyer").
His new book is "The Outsider." That's coming up on the next fresh
air.
