Tuesday, October 30, 2001: WMUB's Fall Fund Drive continues.
        As of midnight Tuesday morning we have raised $54,801 (a
record for the first 5 days of any WMUB campaign). As promised, we
may end early: we will end the drive at midnight on the day we reach
our $75,000 goal --today or tomorrow, whichever comes first. Pledge

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
        Hour one: Oil: Media in Wartime: News organizations may face
new challenges in wartime. Diane and her guests talk about the
responsibilities of the media in times of crisis, and how the publics
right to know is balanced with the need to protect military
operations.
        Hour two: Poet and essayist Diane Ackerman discusses the joys
of gardening in all seasons. In her new book "Cultivating Delight"
(Harper Collins) she introduces her own Ithaca, NY garden and its
flowers, weeds, beauty and chaos.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (noon - 1pm)
        CHRISTOPH ESCHENBACH <AHSH-en-bach>.Hes the chief conductor
of the orchestra of Paris and holds posts in Houston, Chicago and
Hamburg, Germany. In September 2003 he takes over as music director
of the Philadelphia Orchestra. On Sunday he conducted the special
memorial ceremony at the site of the September 11th tragedy in New
York City.

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm)
        Michael Powell, chairman of the Federal Communications
Commission, has some challenges in his new role. From managing the
broadcast spectrum to the future of digital television and low power
F-M, he joins Kojo for a Tech Tuesday discussion on these issues and
more.

Talk of the Nation with Neal Conan (2pm - 4pm)
        Hour one: UPDATE ON THE MILITARY CAMPAIGN IN AFGHANISTAN:
Neal talks with military strategists about the campaign to unseat the
Taliban, and how U-S ground and air strikes can do the job.
        Hour two: ANTI-TERRORISM BILL/GALLUP-CNN-USA TODAY POLL ON
"TORTURE": Neal talks with guests about the new anti-terrorism bill.
Plus, did you know 45% of Americans favor "torturing known terrorists
if they know details about future terrorist attacks in the U-S?"

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
        A report on the national psyche. September 11th changed the
way many Americans think about our their lives. For some it's changed
the way they look at big issues, like marriage, or the existence of
God. For others, it's affected how they think about smaller things,
like buying cigarettes or going out to eat.
