Today's Talk Shows on WMUB (http://www.wmub.org/today)

Thursday, October 4, 2001

the Todd Mundt Show (9am -10am)
        tba

The Diane Rehm Show (10am - Noon)
Hour one: Aftereffects: Three weeks after the tragic attacks
on the U-S, we'll talk about how it's still affecting communities
across the country, and hear your thoughts on how you're feeling
about all the recent events in New York, Washington and around the
world.
Hour two: Edward Linenthal: Until last month, the bombing of
Oklahoma City's federal office building was this country's worst
terrorist attack. In his new book, "The Unfinished Bombing" (Oxford),
Edward Linenthal writes about how Oklahoma City has struggled to
memorialize those who died, and to cope with the aftermath of the
tragedy.

Fresh Air with Terry Gross (noon - 1pm)
How satirists are dealing with the aftermath of September
11th. Hear from comedian HARRY SHEARER and sample a sketch from his
radio program "Le Show." And, get an update from the editors of the
satirical newspaper, "The Onion."

Public Interest with Kojo Nnamdi (1pm - 2pm)
BOOMS AND BUSTS. BULLS AND BEARS. TYCOONS AND CON MEN. JOIN
KOJO TO EXPLORE THE LAST FOUR HUNDRED YEARS OF WALL STREET, AS
REFLECTED IN THE DIARIES, PRIVATE LETTERS, AND MEMOIRS OF THE PEOPLE
WHO WERE THERE. Guest: David Colbert, author "Eyewitness to Wall
Street: Four Hundred Years of Dreamers, Schemers, Busts, and Booms"
(Pub: Broadway Books)

Talk of the Nation with Neal Conan (2pm - 4pm)
Hour one: U-S FOREIGN POLICY "BLOWBACK": foreign policy that
works in the short term, but which ultimately backfires. 20 years
ago, the U-S supported the Mujaheddin in Afghanistan and helped train
Osama bin Laden. In the war against terrorism, how does the U-S avoid
"blowback?"
Hour two: RACIAL PROFILING ARAB AMERICANS: Since last month's
terrorist attacks, racial profiling has taken on a new meaning for
many Americans. Experts talk about whether profiling is a legitimate
tool to help protect America from terrorism.

All Things Considered (4pm - 7pm)
Hundreds of people have been arrested or detained for
questioning since the September 11th attacks. Many are
Arab-Americans, like Dr. Al-Badr Al-Hazmi (ahl BAH-der ahl HAHZ-mee)
of San Antonio, Texas. He was held for twelve days before being
cleared of suspicion and released.
