Greetings... The two photos of immature white-crowneds on the very bottom of
the following webpage on the Powdermill Bird Banding site are interesting to
compare with the photos Dave sent around, yesterday.

The orange-ish bill in the photo of the possible immature Gambel's
white-crowned which Dave sent yesterday looks similar to the photo on the
Powdermill site. I'm not sure what to make of the rather dark eyeline in the
photo of the Indiana bird, though. The bird on the Powdermill site has a
very light face. Not much marking at all.
Then again, there's another immature Gambel's photo in the middle of this
Powdermill page

which looks more like the photo Dave sent around. I'd bet the bird Dave
banded is good for a Gambel's, but I have no experience with this subspecies
and am certainly not very knowledgeable about any possible variation among
these critters.
