I visited Brookville Lake this morning for the first time since the
big snow. With temperatures in the high 40's F yesterday and today,
and rain last night, the melt is rapid, rivers are high and the
ground is now open in many areas. I had 52 species without really
trying for passerines. Several interesting observations:

Pied-billed Grebe 4 (Mounds State Recreation Area)
Horned Grebe 3 (MSRA)
Great Blue Heron 1
Black Vulture 2 (SR 101 s of Mounds State Recreation Area)
MUTE SWAN 16 (my record high for Brookville Lake - previous high was
4. Becoming more regular winter when lakes farther north are frozen)
Gadwall 3
American Black Duck 120
Mallard 750
Canvasback 3
Redhead 14
Ring-necked Duck 5
GREATER SCAUP 1
Lesser Scaup 6
scaup (sp) 20
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER 2 (MSRA)
Common Goldeneye 86
Hooded Merganser 78
Common Merganser 24
American Coot 195
DUNLIN 1 (Dunlapsville; can't imagine how this bird made it through
the past week of snow and sub-zero temps)
Bonaparte's Gull 4
Ring-billed Gull 380
Herring Gull 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler 3
Purple Finch 1
Pine Siskin 1 (home feeder)
