Subject: Avian Field Research in Franklin, Co, Ohio- assistants and
volunteers needed

Below are 2 different postings for full-time field assistants for
spring-summer 2005 in Franklin County, OH.  These positions are
full-time, paid positions.  There is also a need for volunteers for
these projects.  Please contact the appropriate person listed below for

FIELD ASSISTANTS (3) needed for landbird research in forested stopover
areas near Columbus, Ohio, from mid April to late May 2005.  Duties will
include mist netting and radio telemetry of Swainson's Thrushes during
stopover, and conducting surveys for all migratory landbirds.  Prior
experience with identifying North American landbirds by sight and sound
is required.  Applicants with mist-netting and radio telemetry
experience will be preferred.  This position ends in late May, so there
is an opportunity to link the position with summer jobs elsewhere.
Salary $1200-$1600/month depending on experience and final funding

FIELD ASSISTANTS (2) with strong naturalist skills, attention to detail,
and an excitement for learning and conducting field work needed 11 April
2005 through late July 2005 ($315/week, start and end dates slightly
flexible) for a project in passerine ecology.  Study sites span an urban
to rural gradient of nature preserves around Columbus, OH.  The purpose
of this project is to understand how passerines are affected by
urbanization of the surrounding landscape.  Duties include
identification of eastern landbirds, target banding and passerine
handling, resighting and making behavioral observations of color-banded
northern cardinals and acadian flycatchers, nest finding, working long
hours in the field, tolerating abundant mosquitoes, poison ivy, and
stinging nettle, reading various maps and navigating urban roadways, and
making measurements of various habitat characteristics.  Housing not
provided but there is the possibility for subletting near the OSU
campus.  Please email
