Subject: White-rumped Sandpiper Still at Cowan Lake Spillway, 05/14/04

Howdy All,
The White-rumped Sandpiper found by Larry Gara yesterday was still
present this
morning on the spillway of Cowan Lake jsut before 8:00 am. The bird was
with
3-4 Spotted Sandpipers and a Semipalmated Plover. As I was leaving,
Larry Gara
and John Wolff arrived and a lady (Beth?) from the area, who also
enjoyed the
bird, just left. I got about five digiscoped photos which I will share
with
Mike Busam later. Another great bird for this area. Thanks to Larry
Gara for
finding and reporting the bird. Before Larry arrived the bird lifted
its wings
and showed the white rump!

At the beach at Caesar Creek SP, there were the usual local Ring-billed
Gulls, 5
Spotted Sandpipers, and at least two Willow Flycatchers singing their
"fitch'
-bew" song, emphasis on the first note, one in the brush at each end of
the
grassy area.

This was a quick early morning visit before work...and I might add a
very
productive but brief morning of birding, too!
