Greetings!!
We banded for the first time at MUBO [or Hueston Woods] in 2006 on
Monday. We got off to a slow start because it was so cold in the predawn
hours we had to use a torch to thaw our frozen net poles. We were able to
get about half the nets up by 8. Our first bird of the year was a second
year Hermit Thrush. We banded 9 new NOCAs [N. Cardinals] and recaptured
only a single male from last year--we banded 85 NOCAs at MUBO last
year--where did they all go? We recaptured one CACH [Carolina Chickadee]
that was initially banded last year on 21June as an after-second year
female [although she was recaptured three additional times through Oct 25,
2005]. Our sparrows included a couple Swamps, a Fox Sparrow and the first
of spring Field Sparrow. We'll try again tomorrow.
Cheers
Dave
