The Diane Rehm Show, 10-12 noon (*2 full hours on WMUB)

10-11: Trade with China: The issue of China's trade relationship with
the U.S. and the rest of the world has come up for debate again and
again. The U.S. business community and the Clinton administration
want to establish permanent normal trade relations with China, and to
ensure its entry into the World Trade Organization. But this time
around, concerns are being raised about heightened tensions between
China and Taiwan, and about the political climate in this election
year. Diane and her guests discuss the current status of the debate
over trade with China.
Guests: Robert Kapp, U.S.-China Business Council; James Mann,
LA Times columnist and author of "About Face: A Curious History of
America's Relationship with China" (Vintage); Robert Borosage,
Campaign for America's Future

11-12: Synesthesia: As many as one in a thousand people has sensory
experiences in which a visual or auditory stimulus also prompts an
experience with another of the five senses. That is, some people
"see" sounds, "taste" shapes, or "feel" colors, and these sensations
are as real to them as any "normal" sense perception. Diane and her
guests discuss this phenomenon, which is called "synesthesia."
("sin ahs THEE zha")
Guests: Dr. Peter Grossenbacher: National Institute of Mental
Health; Carol Crane: psychologist and synesthete
