ED (& rest of list):

My institution, Saint Micheal's College in Vermont, enrollment 1892
residential, has had an annual program of retrofit-sprinklering ONE
residence hall per year. With 1999-2000 fire tragedies, some increased
press about college fires in general, and some events that have occured
here, the college has wisely accelerated the program. The remaining large
residential buildings (3) will ALL be sprinklered over this summer. The
long term plan currently calls for phasing out the smaller (less than 15)
residential buildings with new construction. Some apartments are already
sprinklered, and I don't know of a plan for the townhouses yet.

These particular administrators have been proactive and now quite
responsive in their response to the current climate of increased awareness,
saleability to parents and prospective students, SAFETY, and legal
ramifications. I hope you all have as much luck....
