IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN GETTING VALUABLE 695 EXPERIENCE?????????
Milford Schools District is looking for volunteers who are willing to make
the trip for a valuable experience. We are DIBEL-ing (Dynamic Indicators
of Basic Early Literacy Skills) again for the Winter Benchmark Assessment.
Milford is about a 45-50 minute drive from Oxford, but it is definitely
worth the trip. You will be working with Kindergarten and First grade
students on a district-wide assessment that looks at phonological awareness
(understanding the sound structure of language), alphabetic principle
(letter-sound correspondence), and reading fluency. This assessment is
well-researched and is becoming quite popular in area schools for
identifying and intervening with students at risk for reading difficulties.
The dates are set for February 2 and February 9 (both Fridays) at Boyd E.
Smith Elementary. A short training will take place in the morning for
those of you who are unfamiliar with the assessment. Don't worry as the
assessment is easy to learn!! Lunch will be provided.
As an aside, I took advantage of a DIBELS experience during my second year.
It has been extremely valuable during my internship year as I was able to
use my experience to help Milford out with organizing and doing the
assessment. Many districts that you may intern or work for will be
interested in doing DIBELS at their schools, and that will make you all the
more attractive to the districts you want to work for. So if you are
interested in getting valuable experience, 695 hours, and a free lunch,
please respond by saying you'll help us on one or both of those dates.
Thank you.
