Bill Spruiell writes that a 'monostructural' theory would have to choose
between two options for S V O: [ S V ] O or S [ V O].
Why not [ S V O ]? That gives you both, as well as agreement of
reflexives or other pronouns (e.g. a pronominal determiner such as 'his'
in front of the D.O.) with the subject.
