Audubon Miami Valley's field trip thismorning to a wooded acreage in Indiana
was highlighted by spectacular views of a Northern Parula on the creek bed
below us - singing at the top of his lungs; none of those under-tail views
which are so much more common.

Also, a Pileated Woodpecker was exhibiting territorial behavior with a van's
mirror and windows. If you think a Cardinal sounds wacky banging against
glass, imagine a Pileated!
The van was owned by one of the field trip people, and it was parked in the
woods with the rest of our vehicles. This behavior went on for a good twenty
minutes, only to have the owner of the van tell us that at a different place
and time, this had happened to a different van of his. Twice in a
lifetime....awesome!

There was a Sora at the co-op on 27 N outside Oxford late this afternoon.
Jill and I were heading into town for dinner and it was quietly feeding in
the middle of the water with a Greater Yellowlegs--never seen a rail at the
the co-op before.
