Miami Computing & Information Services (MCIS) offers dial-in access
to various Miami University computing resources as follows:
* Access to the 14.4 modem pool continues to be available through
529-4999 (40 modems) and 529-2161 (16 modems).
Access to the 2400 modem pool (8 modems) continues to be available
through 529-6114.
Access to the 1200 modem pool through 529-5777 will be discontiued
effective 20 March 1995 (Monday). Clients requiring access at
1200 baud should begin using 529-6114 immediately.
The total number of modems available is presently and will remain
64 for the short-term, while MCIS actively explores further
expansion of its dial-in capacity. It is unlikely this capacity
can be increased before summer.
* The 529-4999 and 529-2161 numbers connect to the Gandalf data
switch and generate the ENTER CLASS: prompt. At this prompt,
the following will be valid options from 1 March:
For: Type at ENTER CLASS:
MiamiLINK MLINK
Miami University Libraries'
Information Network
MiamiU MiamiU
IBM/VM CMS system in Oxford or A
MiaVX1 MiaVX1
DEC OpenVMS system in Oxford or V1
* Access to the Talawanda Learning Community Network (TLCNet)
is changing as follows:
Effective 15 Feb 1995 (Wed), TLCNet will become accessible
via a new, separate and dedicated phone number:
529-6757
Effective 15 May 1995 (Mon), TLCNet will no longer be accessible
via the Gandalf data switch at 529-4999, 529-2161 and 529-6114
Entering TLCNet at the ENTER CLASS prompt will result in an
informational message listing TLCNet's new dedicated number:
529-6757
This change should result in improved access for Miami and
TLCNet clients, as it will remove competition for access to
the same modem pool.
