SSCLS is a generalist service in the Perth suburb of East Victoria Park.
Victoria Park being just over the river from the inner city of Perth. SSCLS
mainly works in the areas of poverty related law and has worked largely
amongst Aboriginal clients over the last fifteen years. However, since 1993
SSCLS has also run a specialist statewide service in relation to the
Disability Discrimination Act 1992; we undertake casework and community
legal education in the DDU. We also provide a welfare rights service, this
deals with Social Security matters and we provide advice and advocacy with
regard to the SSAT and the AAT. We have also recently established a
specialist tenancy unit that provides a casework/advice service and
undertakes CLE. Sussex Street also publishes the West Aust'n Law Handbook,
which is a layperson's guide to the law; we are currently writing the 4th
edition.

Prior to Sussex Street I was the Executive Officer of the Anglican church's
Social Responsibilities Commission for the Province of Western Australia.
In this capacity my work involved research and communication in range of
issues. This included active participation in community debates on issues
like native title, juvenile justice, clearfelling old growth forests for
wood chipping, policing issues, decriminalisation of prostitution and
detention of asylum seekers (to name a few). Prior to working in the social
justice area I worked with young people for more than a decade. I have also
been an active member of the Deaths In Custody Watch Committee in WA.

My partner and I have seven children between us and the Brady Bunch is a
load of crap when it comes to blended families. I am still wondering who I
can sue over being sold this lie for so many years during my childhood?

I have recently commenced a Mastersin social Sciences at Edith Cowan
University (July 1997) and i'm not sure how I'm going to fit it in?

Do let me know if you have taken the opportunity to read this.

Cheers

Stephen Hall
