        MIAMI UNIVERSITY
        POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
 
TITLE: University Database Administrator
 
 
INTRODUCTION:
        The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the design,
deployment, modification and continuing quality control of a university
database in a client/server environment.  Additionally, the incumbent may
also conduct limited specific institutional research projects relating to
academic or student affairs, university business services, and facilities
utilization as assigned by the Director.
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Represent the Office of Budgeting, Planning & Analysis as lead office
for deploying and modifying an enterprise-wide data warehouse and/or
related data marts.
2. Coordinate development of detailed operational plans and implementation
schedules for providing end-user data reporting capabilities as new
Y2K-compliant transaction systems are deployed along with legacy systems.
3. Provide liaison among departments concerning data interfaces,
integration and integrity; including adoption of specifications and
guidelines for data elements.
4. Coordinate the development of University data access and security policies.
5. Coordinate the review, evaluation, selection, acquisition and deployment
of data query and reporting tools.
6. Provide institutional research reports in support of accreditation,
assessment, program review, and divisional and departmental planning needs.
7. Write reports; prepare presentation and report graphics.
 
 
REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
        The analyst reports directly to the Director of Budgeting, Planning &
Analysis, who assigns work, approves self-initiated projects, provides
policy guidance and reviews reports.
 
 
REQUIREMENTS:
        A Bachelor's degree in either management information systems, mathematics,
statistics, decision sciences, economics or other related field; a minimum
of three years higher education administration or business experience;
proficiency in the use of mainframe computer applications (especially
relational databases, 4GL reporting/query languages, and client/server
technology); a working knowledge of Internet/Web technology (browsers,
firewalls, and security); micro-computer applications (database,
spreadsheet, graphics and word processing); thorough practical knowledge of
applied statistics; ability to interact cheerfully and effectively with
many public constituencies; possess a high level of energy and be willing
to undertake new challenges.  Desired qualifications include experience
with Oracle, Microsoft Access, FOCUS, Windows 95 or NT, Novell netware,
Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
 
 
SALARY RANGE:
        $35,000 - $42,000, commensurate with experience.
