Dear Connells-listers,

CONNELLS is primarily a SELF-SERVICE network. Members are expected to try
and take care of their needs on their own. People who live in community do
their share of the work required to keep the community working well. Think
of CONNELLS as a community. To facilitate your assuming that
responsibility, I am sending you this reminder. This is a simple
restatement of some of the listserv commands at your disposal. Caps are
used for emphasis -- all commands and addresses are case insensitive. Keep
it for future reference.

The commands/messages discussed below should all be sent to
[log in to unmask]

The unsubscribe command is just two words: UNSUB CONNELLS
These two words should be in the message, not the subject line.

Most common mistakes:

1. Punctuation marks near the two words E.g.,
"unsub connells" rather than unsub connells
unsub connells. rather than unsub connells

2. Trying to unsubscribe from an new address when your subscription is
registered under an old address. To determine the address under which you
are subscribed, write to [log in to unmask]

If your efforts to unsub have been frustrated, please write to
[log in to unmask], rather than taking the problem to the list. It is
helpful to forward a copy of mail from listserv@miamiu that shows the
source of your problem.

            ------------ MAIL SETTINGS ------------

If you would like to receive CONNELLS messages twice-a-week in a
batch instead of one-by-one, everyday, send the following command to
LISTSERV@miamiu
     SET CONNELLS MAIL DIGEST

If you are going to be away and want to postpone messages again send a
message to LISTSERV@miamiu and in the message box use
    SET CONNELLS MAIL POSTPONE

To unpostpone your mail or return to one-at-a-time message delivery, use
    SET CONNELLS MAIL ACK

All subscribers have one of three settings: ACK, DIGEST or POSTPONE
ACK is the default setting.

To determine which setting you have on your mail, send the command
    SET CONNELLS

-------- INDEX and GET cmds ----------

If you want to see an index of the logs of past messages and other files
send (to LISTSERV@miamiu) the command
     INDEX CONNELLS

The list of files returned from the index command are retrievable with the
get command. If, for example, you are interested in messages from January
94, you send a message to

LISTSERV@miamiu and in the body of the message type
     GET CONNELLS JAN94

If you have friends who would like to subscribe, they should send mail to
[log in to unmask]

in the message proper they should write

     SUB CONNELLS Firstname Lastname

I hope this helps everyone! Now lets talk about something more interesting :-)
Bureaucratically yours, :-)
