Dayton Daily News, Friday, Feb. 5
Miami University president James Garland has recommended wrestling, golf,
tennis and soccer be eliminated to help the school comply with Title IX.
The proposal will be debated during a public hearing today at Shriver
Center, and the Board of Trustees will vote on the plan Saturday.  Quotes
Dr. Garland, Joel Maturi (athletic director) and various student-athletes.

University Art Museum.

Two year ago, the Post profiled a dozen female corporate executives in
Cincinnati, and in a four part series are now revisiting them.  Part one
says many of the women are starting to re-examine their careers and in some
cases change their goals.  Mary Beth Price left an executive position at
Procter & Gamble to form Media That Works in 1985 and is now heading Miami
University's department of entrepreneurship.

The third of a four part series on corporate women says it's a good time to
be an entreprenuer.  Quotes Mary Beth Price, who launched a media company

The first "real step" to improve the quality of education in Ohio comes in
the form of new licensure laws which are in place with the beginning of the
new year.  The new standards call on colleges and universities to improve
their teacher preparation programs, something which local universities,
including Miami University, are struggling to do.  Quotes Alan Frager

Two black students who deny posting racist fliers in a black cultural
center at Miami University have pleaded innocent to misdemeanor charges.

Two black students accused of posting racist fliers in a black cultural
center at Miami University said they are not guilty.

Columbus Dispatch and Canton Repository, Friday, Jan. 22
Two Miami University students who protested an Oct. 30 hate-message
incident on the campus have been charged with creating the slurs and
epithets themselves.  Columbus Dispatch quotes Cathryn House (public
safety), Richard Little (university communications), William Young
(participant in the protest), Mike Gruss (editor, Miami Student) and Nathan
Estep (president, ASG).

The Cincinnati Enquirer, Saturday, Jan. 23
Union Township plans to develop 300 acres of the former Voice of America
(VOA) radio relay site on Tylersville as a township park.  About 200 acres
will become a Butler County golf course and 50 acres will go to Miami
University for an off-site learning center.
