** DIANE's book tour is going on this week. Her memoir, "Finding My Voice,"
is in bookstores now. Over the next several weeks, she'll be in and out.
10-11: Reusing Medical Devices: Hospitals and clinics commonly use medical
devices in surgeries and other procedures, then sterilize them and use them
again. But some also reuse devices that are labeled for single use only.
Some experts say most devices labeled for single use are truly safe for
multiple uses and that medical facilities would literally go broke if they
always used new equipment. But others say reprocessing some devices puts
patients at risk for infection or injury and isn't ethical. Join Diane and
guests for a discussion on the manufacture and use of medicaldevices in the
U.S.
Guests: Josephine Torrente, president of the Assn of Disposable
Device
Manufacturers; Pam Furman, exec director of the Assn of Medical Device
Reprocessors; Dr. Jose Nazari, Chicago area cardiologist; Dr. Phil
Grossman, Miami gastroenterologist
11-12: Betty Edwards: Betty Edwards presents the revised edition of
"Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain," her classic guide to developing
artistic abilities and problem-solving skills. "The New Drawing on the
Right Side of the Brain" (Tarcher Putnam) has been updated with information
on the latest brain research, and refined through the hundreds of seminars
Dr. Edwards has led in the past 20 years.
Fresh Air with Terry Gross, 12:06-1 p.m.
Executive producer JAMES REDFORD. After receiving two liver transplants
himself, REDFORD went on to raise money for and produce the documentary
"The Kindness of Strangers" about the patients and donors in four organ
transplantations.
