Jeff & Brock, I don't think there's any "rule" that disallows anyone from joining the listserv. From my own point of view, though (admittedly prejudiced), I've never encouraged students to join. I have thought about having them do so and ask questions about certain subjects that have come up in class discussions. But I finally decided that would change the nature of the listserv . It might make it just a Grammar Answer Person for student questions. Perhaps ATEG would want to have such a listserv in place. But I wonder if most ATEG members would really want the present listserv to become that Answer Person. Encouraging students to join would also produce a large number of people who left the listserv every semester, mostly without signing off. We'd never know how many real users there were. Honestly, I don't know. I'm not sure whether any of these things would be terrible consequences. But we probably should discuss the issues before we go ahead with such a move. I'd like to see the listserv grow, for many of the reasons Brock suggests. But I hesitate about encouraging students to join. "Hesitate" is the crucial word here. I ain't at all sure.
