> Frankly, it would be harder to find elementary schools that DIDN'T teach > the parts of speech. And why start at 3rd grade? They start in first. But they don't teach them in an extensive way. Nor do they use them as a foundation for integrated grammar curriculum that continues through higher grades. I recall a going as far as as count, mass, abstract, and concrete nouns, and auxiliary verbs in another context. But even these seem like they were a very brief mentioning. I don't think that grammar is a systematic part of the curriculum, like arithmetic, bio, etc. Or if it is, then hey! we've won! ----------------------------------------------------- Sincerely, Robert Einarsson please visit me at www.artsci.gmcc.ab.ca/people/einarssonb To join or leave this LISTSERV list, please visit the list's web interface at: http://listserv.muohio.edu/archives/ateg.html and select "Join or leave the list" Visit ATEG's web site at http://ateg.org/
