Many thanks to the helpful people who replied to this question! There was support for the trisodium phosphate treatment, as well as a borate-based treatment applied by a pesticide expert. I must say I like the idea of calling in an outside expert! -----Original Message----- From: Skreslet, Paula [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 11:29 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Wet woodwork Hello folks ... our library had a series of roof leaks over a period of 3-4 years. The problem has finally been solved and the roof repaired. Next, we need to replace the sheetrock and repaint the areas of wall and ceiling that were damaged by water. Before installing new sheetrock, we wonder whether the wooden beams & frames should be sprayed with something to do away with any mold or mildew (or whatever) that might be thinking about growing in there. No mold is discernible now -- we want to do this as a precaution. Should we attempt such a thing? If so, what should we treat it with? A bleach solution? Some kind of Mold-B-Gon? Sources I've checked recommend "trisodium phosphate" or Lysol. Any opinion?
