Allison,

I'm sorry if I implied that I was insulted; for sure, I was not. I don't insult easily, anyway. I was just trying to stand up for the many high school English teachers I know who do teach MLA and other aspects of English other than just literature. I am not offended in the least.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,

Paul D.

My English teacher in high school definitely taught me to write, especially my sophomore teacher because of the tenth grade writing assessment all of us were required to take. I didn't mean to insult all high school teachers out there and didn't really mean to insult anyone. I was just trying to express the wish that I had been taught some aspects of English (such as MLA style) in high school so that I wouldn't have felt so behind when I got to college. It really was daunting that everyone seemed to know what was going on but me.

I come from a very small, rural town where everyone knows everyone else, and most of the English teachers in my high school had been around for many, many years. Some of them still had their spark and taught English with a passion; some of them seemed to have lost it along the way, and I wish now, as involved as I am and wish to be in the English program, that I could somehow give it back to them.

I didn't mean to disrespect any of you, and I apologize if I started a thread that did so. I mostly wanted to express how my high school experience with English went and possibly hear from other people about theirs. I've lived in the South my entire life, and the education systems of two towns are the only ones I know. I'm sorry if I have hurt anyone's feelings.
